Golden Barrel Cactus, scientifically known as Echinocactus grusonii, is a striking and popular cactus native to east-central Mexico. This cactus is renowned for its distinctive, spherical shape that can grow impressively large over time, reaching up to three feet in diameter. It features prominent ribs lined with clusters of long, golden-yellow spines that provide a stunning visual contrast against the deep green body of the cactus, earning it the name “Golden Barrel”. This species is not only a favourite among cacti enthusiasts but also a common feature in xeriscape gardens due to its drought tolerance and dramatic appearance. In summer, mature plants may produce circle-shaped clusters of small, yellow flowers at the top, adding to their ornamental value.
