Begonia ferox, commonly known as the Troll Begonia or Fierce Begonia, is a remarkable and visually striking species native to the limestone regions of China. This begonia is renowned for its uniquely bullated leaves, which are covered in pronounced, rugged textures that make the foliage appear almost prehistoric. The leaves are dark green with lighter green or silver speckling, and they feature a sharply pointed apex that distinguishes them from similar species like Begonia melanobullata. The intense texturing and pointed tips of the leaves add a dramatic flair to this plant, making it a must-have for enthusiasts of unusual begonias. Begonia ferox thrives in high humidity environments and is ideally suited for life in a terrarium, where its slow-growing, fierce-looking leaves can be displayed prominently.
