If youre looking for a classic that never goes out of style, you cannot go wrong with the Tillandsia Ionantha Rubra. These little gems are a personal favorite because they are just so versatile. Their thin, soft leaves are covered in tiny silver hairs called trichomes, which help the plant drink in moisture from the air and give them a beautiful, frosted appearance.

Because they stay relatively compact, they are the perfect fit for glass terrariums, tucked into the crevices of a piece of cork, or mounted on weathered driftwood. The real “wow” moment comes when they begin to bloom. The entire plant blushes a brilliant red to orange, acting as a backdrop for striking purple tubular flowers. Its a spectacular transformation that happens right before your eyes! Just remember to give them plenty of bright, filtered light and a good soak once a week to keep those colors vibrant and healthy.
