Protect fresh cuts on woody plants! Pruning Sealers are designed to create a physical, waterproof barrier over large cuts made during tree removal or heavy pruning. This barrier prevents moisture loss, discourages wood-boring insects from entering the wound, and keeps common disease spores and fungi from settling into the vulnerable, freshly exposed wood.

• Best For:
  • Large Wounds: Sealing large cuts (usually over 1.5 inches in diameter) made when removing limbs from shade trees or ornamentals.
  • Vulnerable Trees: Protecting thin-barked trees, such as Aspens or Birch, from sun scald, borers, and disease.
• Key Actionable Steps:
  • How to Apply: Apply a thin, uniform layer of the liquid or aerosol product only to the exposed wood surface immediately after making the cut. Do not coat the bark around the edge of the wound (the callous ring).
  • Timing: Apply immediately after making the cut before the wound surface has dried.
  • Pro Tip: Modern arboriculture generally advises against using sealers on smaller, correctly-made cuts, as the tree’s natural healing process (callousing) is usually faster and more effective without them. Reserve sealers only for very large cuts or specific trees highly susceptible to borers or fungal cankers
