Sansevieria Pinguicula, now often classified as Dracaena pinguicula, is a rare xerophytic succulent native to the Bura area of Kenya near Garissa. Commonly called the Walking Sansevieria, this remarkable species is famous for its unusual growth habit. Instead of spreading mainly by underground rhizomes like many related plants, it produces aerial stolons that end in new plantlets. These plantlets send down stilt-like roots, creating the appearance that the plant is slowly walking away from its parent. Its compact rosettes are made up of thick, blue-green leaves covered in a waxy cuticle that helps conserve water. Each leaf has a strong, sculptural form with a lengthwise channel, reddish-brown margins, and tough papery white edges. Rare, architectural, and highly adapted to dry conditions, Sansevieria pinguicula is a true collector plant with a fascinating story.
