A moody and sophisticated gem for the front of the border, Verbascum ‘Plum Smokey’ is prized for its unique, subtle colouring.

From late spring through to mid-summer, short, upright spikes rise from a neat rosette of crinkled, grey-green foliage, bearing masses of saucer-shaped flowers in a smoky shade of plum-purple with dark centres.

Unlike its towering cousins, this compact variety stays neat and manageable, making it perfect for rockeries, gravel gardens, or patio containers. It’s a magnet for bees and although a short-lived perennial, it provides weeks of intense colour and drought tolerance once established.

June-August flowering. Drought tolerant. Thrives in full sun in any well-drained soil. Height & spread: 45cm x 40cm (18″ x 16″).
